Work from series for my MFA inspired by my love of color and the influence of Marc Rothko

While in college my husband and I lived in Oxford, England for several months. I rode my bike in the countryside outside Oxford and painted.

Traveling by bicycle through the green countryside around Oxford I would stop wherever I wanted.

I miss the seasons in Los Angeles. The delicate beauty of young blossoms and leaves are really the reward of having endured winter.

I made this small drawing in the fall. It's title, "Remind Me" was a reminder to look around me and to remember what a gift life is even in the hardest times.

Arches National park is a place where nature creates art work with rock against sky. The red rock frames the sky and the stone arches echo the whispy clouds in the sky.

Behind our house there was a forest. I walked through it in all the seasons.

My son was going to a "Bird" camp and watching and caring for injured birds until they were ready to fly free. The hawk release was incredible. To me it was the symbol of being free. I will never forget watching it spread its wings and fly off.

I made this drawing after seeing David Parson's dance "Caught" at Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City. In the dance he circles the stage leaping into the air, it is dark. Just as he leaps, the spot light finds him and as he circles the stage it appears that he is flying.
